Why I Do Not Respond to Everybody

1. I somehow missed your comment.

"I can answer your question,
don't you know." - internet person
2. I do not have time to respond. If you need a response, that is what the internets is for. I'm sure there is someone out there in the internets who would be happy to talk to you.

3. Your comment is not worth a response. That means, your argument is not strong enough to even consider putting my hand to the keyboard.

4. You are making comments that are irrelevant to the post to which your comment is posted.

5. I accidentally deleted your comment.

For all my readers, the new comment moderation was put into effect because I had someone spending all of the waking moments of his or her life posting red-bull induced, anti-Catholic, worn-out-fundamentalist comments. Then, this person decided to contact me directly and tell me that they would "never leave me alone".

Scary stuff.

I also have another poster who feels that he is qualified to debate the Pope, the college of Bishops or anyone, anytime, anywhere. That guy is a real stud. I wish I were that studly. I guess I will just have to be married for 10 years, have five kids, and a good job. Let me openly admit something -- right out loud on the internets. I am not qualified to debate the Pope, the college of Bishops, AND I do not have time to debate internet peoples.

Rule #1: Do not start something you cannot finish.

So, why don't I respond to everybody?

See "Rule #1".

Combox Rules Revisited

NOTE: This post is a republish from almost a year ago. If you ever wonder why I delete a comment, see below.

I recently had a comment made on my blog (it has been deleted) that has provoked me to iterate some rules for comment publishing. Some bloggers man their combox like a gulag, refusing the manifestation of dissenting opinions. Some don't allow any comments, thereby making their blog a static web-page, meant only to disseminate information.

I enjoy comments, but I want to lay some ground rules. This post will be added to the side bar and entitled: "Comment Publishing Guidelines".

#1- The Combox is meant to engage the article to which it is connected. It is not your personal opportunity to "sound off". You are welcome to create your own blog for that, but my blog is not that forum for you.
Find Old Posts

#2- If it is clear to me that you have not taken the time to read any of my posts and are making arguments I've refuted, I will likely delete your comment. (The visuals illustrate ways to find my posts on a topic)

#3- Any comments that are ad hominems will be deleted (if yours slipped through, lucky you).

#3-1- If you talk about my family or friends in any way that is not positive (like calling someone a "coward"), your comment will be deleted and you will be blocked from my combox FOREVER

#4- You can always contact me at the "About Brent" tab. You can then send me a message in the "Contact me" form. If it is something that merits a reply by email, I will email you. If not, peace to you on your journey...

#5- Comments that are good include those that ask questions or provide evidence against a claim I make. Bad comments ignore what I wrote, provide no evidence, or ground their claim on how much they "feel" a particular belief is true.
