This post is in honor of Natural Family Planning Awareness Week
Tonight my daughter pulled out her first tooth. I am not too happy about it. Not because the tooth wasn't ready to come out but because I wasn't ready for the tooth to come out. I don't have a thing for teeth being installed in one's mouth, well sort of, but what I am getting at is that I'm not really happy about my daughter growing up. [insert daddy pout face]
Then just about 2 minutes ago (when I started writing this), my 2-1/2 year old son came out of his room and said, "I want Lady Fatima movie and popcorn."
Precious.
Brent, you are thinking, what does this have to do with NFP?
Natural Family Planning implies that what we do in our bedroom impacts the living room and the bathroom for that matter (I normally wake up every morning and wipe two butts--kids butts!). It implies that our bodies are made as a gift and that when that gift is fully realized, it can give us more than we bargained for but in a great way.
NFP is not contraception. It is a conversation. It is an ongoing conversation between you, your spouse, her body and God. It is not just chit-chat but rather the kind of dynamic communication that matters.
My point is that a life full of pulled out teeth, Fatima kids movies, popcorn, and hugs and kisses is a really good life. This week, I celebrate NFP and what it has given me; namely, an awesome conversation that has given me four little beautiful conversations:
"Leah"
"Yes, daddy."
"I love you"
"Hey what about me, I love my daddy"
"Dean, I love you too baby"
"Jude, come over here and give daddy a big kiss"
[I'm chocking on his mega-kiss]
"I can't forget my Gemma!"
[she's smiling as if her face is about to explode off her body]
Ahhh...
