Stay Crunchy Video, A Post, and a Promise

If you don't know Ronald Jenkees (this is on his album Disorganized Fun), now you know. I heard him through my "Mute Math" station on Pandora. One word: Genius.

If you have not yet read this post by Patrick Vandapool, do yourself a favor. Read it. It is one of the better articles I've read in a while.

Last but not least, I will be publishing a new Myth Busters on Monday.

You know what, I've always wanted to know if Catholics worship idols...

Happy Easter!

A Video for the Weekend!

I am really excited about blogging this next year. This season of Lent has brought me a much needed refreshing. I'm energized to defend the faith and look forward to tackling the objections that keep people out of the Catholic Church. Here's what I hope to do in the coming months:
  • Ninja-fy™ some more Myths
  • Talk about why I didn't become Orthodox
  • Explore some more of what I like to call the "Catholic ghosts in the Protestant machine"
  • Write some replies to some Protestant articles and blog posts
  • Share with you more about my own personal journey into the Catholic Church
  • AND give Rev. R.U. Reedy some more room to bring down the gold-dust glory!
Not to mention that I'm continuing the editing process of an incredible book.

Thus, I request that you pray for me. I will pray for you.

Peace to you on your journey!

Top 2 Videos of the Week

Two great videos for your spiritual edification.

AND

Click Here to Watch His Story
“Deep down inside, don't we all long for a fulfilling relationship, completeness, escape from the mediocrity of our daily lives, to reach out towards an Absolute Being?”

The search for meaning, for the Absolute, led Father Joseph-Marie Verlinde, known as Jacques at the time, to take the plunge into the "Great Whole". Initiated in ascetic oriental practices such as yoga and transcendental meditation, he explored the Hindu and Buddhist religious traditions in India. This led him on to esoteric and occult practices and, in this film, he speaks about this and about his own experiences, contrasting them with the truth of the One he crossed the world to find: Jesus Christ.

A priest of Belgian origin, with Doctorates in philosophy and theology, he is now prior of the Monastic Community of the Family of Saint Joseph, in France. Drawing on his past experience, Father Joseph-Marie Verlinde answers some of the basic questions faced by society today. With great respect, he warns and enlightens those who, in their search for "meaning", embark upon the ways of the East... and engage in esoteric and occult practices. -source H/T to my wife!

Best Video of the Week. Period. Done.

Tomorrow is the Feast of St. Sebastian! He is my eldest son's patron. We will be feasting--I will not be blogging. May we all have the courage of St. Sebastian to witness our faith no matter the cost. Especially in a world that in the name of Christ denies Him.

St. Sebastian, Ora Pro Nobis!

Top 3 Videos of the Week: Idioms, War & Mystics

The videos are back! First up, I offer you a video guaranteed to make you laugh. If you don't laugh, there is something wrong with you. Really. If you don't find this at all funny, go get checked somewhere. The second video should make you pause and think (ht to MS). The last video is about St. Theresa of Avila from Father Baron's amazing book and video series: The Catholicism Project. It reminded me of one of the reasons "Why I'm Catholic".

Have a wonderful weekend!

Top 3 Videos of the Week: Conversion, Leaving the Church? & Liturgical Police

They are back. By unpopular demand, I offer to you three great short videos. The first video explores the theme of personal conversion. In the second video, Fr. Barron explains what it means to "leave the Church". I will let you decide about the third one.

Have a lovely weekend!

Top 3 Videos of the Week: Journey Home Edition

This week's videos all come from the Journey Home collection. The first video is me (awkward moment). The second video is a panel on sola scriptura, and the last video is a conversion story of a COC pastor. Have a wonderful weekend, and remember to say a prayer for all those who might be effected by the hurricane. Ave Maria!

Top 3 Videos of the Week: Prayer Edition

We must pray every single day. We have record of only a few of Our Lord's prayers, but the one that should always ring in our ears is, "That they may be one!"

This week's videos touch my heart. The first is a convert from Sweden. One of my dearest friends from seminary is from the same town. How I wish that he would come into the Church. He would make a wonderful churchman. May these wicked and perilous times make the beauty of the Fullness of the Truth in the Catholic Church shine like the sun and bring men and women home. Amen.

The second video is from the Pope's visit two years ago to St. Gregory's Cathedral. It is a good reminder that the Catholic Church encompasses more than just the Latin Rite.

Lastly, enjoy this great video about a dog. Why? Because, Catholics and separated brethren can share a laugh together and that's a good thing. Shame on us for not doing it more!

Top 3 Videos of the Week: LOL Edition

It's been a long week, and it is sooo hot outside. The one thing that promises relief is laughter. I enjoy laughing as I think it is one of the behaviors proper to our place in the cosmos: infinitesimally small yet bizarrely important. Humor is found, according to Plato, precisely in the paradox, the tension, the dialectic between what is and what is not--between expectation and reality. The first video explores the irony of one sense of sola scriptura. The second video is Colbert having fun with Bart Ehrman. Lastly, if you are not already hooked on the UNapologist blog "I'm reading", here's a reason you should be. (plus a bonus one)

"the czar can do all things," repeat, "the czar can do all things"

Top 3 Videos of the Week: Former Methodist Minister, Ambrosian Rite & Unusual Prayer

It is Friday. It is time for videos. It is time for me to stop writing in short and choppy sentences.

Here's the lineup: A former Methodist minister explains why he became Catholic, witness the beauty of holiness in the Ambrosian Rite (yes after St. Ambrose who baptized St. Augustine) and lastly a pause to stop, reflect, and remember that no matter what you think about the prayer, at least he's not messing with the liturgy so it ain't that bad.

Enjoy your weekend!

Top 3 Videos of the Week: Pentecostal Pastor, Fr. Barron on the Eucharist & A Catholic-Protestant Debate

It's Friday! Which means, besides being oh so close to the weekend (and two days away from my son's fourth birthday), it is time for the top 3 videos of the week. First up, we have a Pentecostal convert from the Four-Square denomination. Second, you can enjoy Father Barron on the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist (thanks to CNMO). Lastly, I have provided for you a very funny video that is especially funny towards the very end (3:30). If you don't watch the whole thing, just skip to the end (3:30). You can say "thank you" for the laugh in the comment box.

Top 3 Videos of the Week: Christine's Conversion, UNWANTED & CNMO

CNMO
This is a truly exciting week for the entire world. The release of the website for the ground-breaking, mind-bending, life-changing, method morphing....book (pre-order here), The Church and the New Media, has been released. [cue Superman music] Brandon Vogt, formerly known as blogger, has reappeared out of the telephone booth as Chief New Media Officer (CNMO) leading the reader into unchartered terabytes. I will tell you that it is a must read, so go ahead and set aside a quarter or so a day so you can justify making the purchase. Actually, it's really easy to justify given that Brandon is forgoing royalties to empower Kids in Kenya with technology and training. [Superman music stop]

Top 3 Videos of the Week: Thomas Howard, PBXVI on St. Thomas & A Calvin Cartoon

I realized that there is a huge disadvantage to putting my top videos on a landing page. For starters, no one can go back and look at previous week's videos. So, I've decided to delete the static page and add a Top 3 Videos of the Week sidebar. Sadly if you click on it, you will only get this week due to my technological nearsightedness. Sorry. I'm new at this blogging thing.
